Acute liver failure (ALF) is a rare and severe consequence of abrupt hepatocyte injury, and can evolve over days or weeks to a lethal outcome. Although liver transplantation used in nearly 30% patients with ALF has resulted in lower mortality, it is still a life-threatening severe disease. Research on the pathogenesis and treatment of ALF is still active.

For this special issue, we invite front-line hepatologists and liver researchers to submit high-quality scientific manuscripts regarding ALF. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

Guest Editors’ Profiles:

 

Ming-Qin Lu, MD

Prof. Lu is the director of Department of Infectious Diseases, The First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, China. He is also the editorial board member of JCTH, member of autoimmune liver disease group of the Chinese Association of Liver Diseases and member of viral hepatitis group of the Liver Disease Committee of the Chinese Association of Research Hospitals. His research interest focuses on the pathogensis and immunological therapy of acute liver failure(ALF). He has published over 30 peer-reviewed papers in academic journals such as Hepatology, Moleculor Immunology, Mediators Inflammation etc.


 

Feng Ren, MD, PhD

Dr. Ren is a professor and supervisor of PHD student in the Beijing You 'an Hospital/Beijing Institute of Liver Disease, Capital Medical University, China. The major interest of Dr. Ren’s studies is the pathogenesis of hepatitis B virus associated liver diseases, especially acute liver failure (ALF). Dr. Ren has published more than 20 professional papers in the research field of hepatitis B and acute liver failure in academic journals such as Hepatology, Cell death & Disease, Journal of Viral Hepatitis, PloS One, etc. He has 10 ongoing grants including four funds from national natural science foundation of China and Beijing.


 

Zhu-Jun Cao, MD, PhD

Dr. Cao is a resident in Department of Infectious Diseases, Ruijin Hospital School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiaotong University after finished his PH.D program in 2019. He is a member of European Association for the Study of Liver disease (EASL), member of American Association for the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD) and member of International Club of Ascites (ICA). Dr. Cao has also been invited as the reviewer for 4 professional journals, including The British Medical Journal, Journal of Digestive Disease, Clinical Molecular Hepatology, European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He has published 14 professional papers in the research field of hepatitis B and Acute-on-chronic liver failure, including BMJ, America Journal of Gastroenterology, Liver International, Journal of Viral Hepatology etc.


 

Nai-Bin Yang, MD

Dr. Yang is an Attending physician in Department of infectious Diseases, Ningbo City First Hospital/Ningbo Hospital of Zhejiang University. His research interest focuses on the pathogensis and immunological therapy of acute liver failure. Dr. Yang has also been invited as the reviewer for over 10 professional journals. He has published 20 professional papers in the research field of acute liver failure, endotoxin tolerance and COVID-19 including Hepatology, Clinical Infectious Diseases, liver international etc.
